10-steps Korean skincare: what it really is

A lot has been said about the legendary 10-steps Korean skincare: do women really spend that much time in front of a mirror? Let’s find out together.

It’s crystal clear: there’s a lot of hype around K-Beauty in Western countries too.
There’s not a single skincare lover that doesn’t already have, or doesn’t have in her wish list, at least one Made in Korea product. Why? Well, first of all those products are super and truly effective and most of the times they are packaged in such a cutely and funny way that you just can’t resist them.

But women are not only looking for the best mask sheets and moisturizers, they also want to know all the secrets behind this skincare routine and that’s exactly what we will try to tell you in this article.
As the title itself says, this routine consists of 10 steps that need to be done both in the morning and in the evening, but read ‘till the end cause you may learn something you didn’t even expect.
Let’s start introducing to you the famous 10 steps:

STEP 1 – OIL-BASED CLEANSER

A great oil-based cleanser is the first crucial step in this skincare if you want to keep your skin young and smooth as long as possible. It will delicately remove the makeup/oils/impurities/pollutants and wipe them off leaving your natural oils behind.

STEP 2 – FOAM-BASED CLEANSER

We are pretty sure you’ve already heard about double cleansing and its major skin benefits.
After removing the makeup and other impurities, it’s very important to do a deeper cleansing with a purifying/mattifying/hydrating foaming cleanser, depending on your skin type.

STEP 3 – EXFOLIATOR

With this step you’ll be sure your skin is totally cleaned and free of impurities and dead cells.
Exfoliator is has to be chosen wisely, avoiding those too aggressive (like scrubs) if you want to use it on a daily basis.

STEP 4 – TONER

Once you’ve made sure your skin is completely clean, you’re ready to rebalance your skin’s pH level.

STEP 5 – ESSENCE

This step, just as the double cleansing one, is another novelty imported from Korea. Essence is a more fluid product and its main purpose is to hydrates the skin and make the most of the serums that follow. An alternative could be a water based moisturizing that can be used even on the makeup, to make it look more natural and dewy.

STEP 6 – SERUM

You can now procede to apply your favorite serum in order to boost your derma and make you the following steps even more effective.

STEP 7 – FACE MASK

You can now put your face mask but always make sure to have the right amount of time at your disposal so you’ll never have to skip this step.

STEP 8 – EYES CREAM

The eye area is the most sensitive and delicate one. This step is meant to be done as gently as possible.

STEP 9 – MOISTURIZING CREAM

At this point, the key is to moisturize and nurture your skin. We suggest you use a gel based cream in the morning (this is also the best option for oily skin) and use a richer formula in the night (this is meant for dry and sensitive skin).

STEP 10 – SUNSCREEN CREAM/NIGHT MASK

This will obviously depend on wether if you’re doing this in the morning or in the evening.
If you’re about to leave your house to start your day, don’t forget to apply an SPF (30 at least) to protect you skin from UV rays.
If you’re ready to go to bed, put on the last layer of product: a night mask that will do its job while you’re well-deserved rest.

I’m sure now you’re curious to know if Korean women really opened that much time on their skincare. The truth is that this 10-steps are only theoretically supposed to be done, but at the end of the day everyone can customize their own regimen, removing or adding any product as they see fit.
As most specialists have said, the important steps to incorporate in our routines are the double cleansing, the toner, the essence and moisturizer. Everything else is completely up to you: depending on factors like the amount of time you have and your skin type, you can choose when to do them.

Now that you know everything there is to know about Korean skincare, we are certain you will revise your current regimen and incorporate some of these steps.
You’ll see major benefits and improvements in almost no time, mark our words!
